The Idiomatic Phrase You Thought You'd Thought Of But We Got There First
- ekphrastic dualism
Ekphrasis is a term used to denote poetry or poetic writing concerning the visual or plastic arts. However, ekphrastic dualism occurs when a painting's subject matter or inspiration is a poem which itself is concerned with painting. For instance, Constable's famous painting, The Haywain, is in fact a painting about a poem written by Constable himself (now lost) about another painting he completed a few months earlier entitled, 'The Haywain'.
