The worst case of Belgian tossing occured in France in 1894 around the same time as the infamous Dreyfus Case.
Such was the state of heightened xenophobia, a party of 24 Belgians on a day trip to Rheims were mistaken for a lorryload of imported foreign pancakes. The tossing lasted over 6 hours and used, what was then, the world's largest frying pan originally built in the shipyards of Brest.
Naturally this caused an international crisis and the Belgian authorities responded by tenderising all French nationals with their own baguettes. This led quite conveniently to the First World War.
